Meet Tamara: she’s an artist, dog lover and one of our lead optical stylists at our Robson Street store in beautiful Vancouver. From the early days helping open Bailey Nelson’s first location in Canada, Tamara has been an indispensable part of the BN family for nearly 2 years! We caught up with Tamara to discuss her journey with BN, her daily inspirations and her passions outside of work.
You’ve been with Bailey Nelson in Canada from Day One! Can you tell us a bit about how you got started at BN, and your favorite part about working with the team?
Honestly, I need to credit this one to my parents, who are evidently way cooler than I am. They’d been following the BN brand for a while, and always raved about the service they received and the quality of the product (note: they ordered glasses back when BN was still under a franchise, at the Cambie street location). I saw that Bailey Nelson was hiring and put two and two together! At Robson it’s really fast paced. I feel like we’re all people persons and can talk about anything!
You’ve got an amazing sense of style! What’s your go-to outfit?
I love any excuse to dress up, which is why you’ll rarely see me in jeans at work. Right now, I’m into a romantic Victorian look —lots of ribbons, bows, lace, and frills. My favourite outfit is probably this black drop waist mini dress with bell sleeves from Ganni, a detachable lace collar I got from Dressew, some frilly bobby socks, and some lace up heeled booties by Clark’s.
Now that we’re starting to head into the warmer months, what does your ideal weekend look like?
Having a picnic in the park with my friends, and watching dogs run around.
What are your passions outside of work?
Making art, going to shows (art, or music, or both,) hanging out with my dog, and baking.
If you could invite 3 guests over for dinner, living or not, who would they be and why?
- Artemisia Gentileschi — She was a painter in an era where women had very few, if any, career options. She painted women owning their power, which I think is really cool.
- Solange Knowles — She’s such an important and talented musician, and I love that her albums are so considered. She’s really good at crafting a distinctive sound and image.
- Amy Sedaris — She’s hilarious and I love her new show “At Home with Amy Sedaris”. She’d be a great dinner party host.
What’s your go-to Netflix series to binge watch at the moment?
I recently finished watching Russian Doll, which I really enjoyed. Natasha Lyonne is so good in it.
You spend a lot of time around our frames! What’s your favourite frame of all time?
Definitely the Reba! It’s so lightweight and has a very 1970s feel. I love the subtle weirdness of it—it’s very me.
